DucksRISE program
DucksRise F22 Recruitment Flyer
The DucksRISE program is thrilled to invite you to participate in the second cohort of DucksRISE students beginning Fall 2022.
About the Program:
DucksRISE (Research, Internship & Student Engagement) is a new six-month, cohort-based program focused on bringing into effect equitable post-graduation outcomes for underserved students at UO, centering BIPOC, first generation, and low-income students. DucksRISE fosters community building and a sense of belonging through educational activities, career exploration and readiness, professional development, tailored connections, and mentorship experiences.
Students will develop career skills and competencies through a one-credit upper-division career readiness seminar followed by a flexible experiential opportunity. Experiential opportunities range from internships, research fellowships, job shadowing opportunities, study abroad, and more.
Eligibility:
Currently enrolled UO students of any class standing who self-identify as BIPOC, first gen, and/or low-income
While the program is tailored for Sophomores and Juniors, Freshman are welcome to participate if they are ready to start their career exploration journey. Senior standing students who can fully participate in the 6-month program and do not intend to graduate prior to W23 are also welcome to apply.
Incoming students admitted in F22 who are interested in the program are encouraged to apply for the S23 cohort. Recruitment for the S23 cohort will begin in W23.
Time Commitment & Tuition Remission:
Students participating in the F22 cohort of the DucksRISE program will need to be available to attend the DucksRISE seminar (UGST 399) during Fall term. This 1 credit seminar will be held Tuesdays from 5:00-6:20 pm in GSH 123.
DucksRISE offers financial support for the tuition costs of UGST 399 for students that do not have the 1 credit course covered by other means of financial aid. The tuition remission for the one-credit course will be applied, if needed, directly to the student’s account in collaboration with the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships. We always recommend that students confer with a financial aid counselor to learn how any additional funding may impact their financial aid package, however, we will ensure the tuition for the 1-credit seminar is covered by the program if needed.
Application Process:
To enroll in the F22 DucksRISE cohort, please complete this short form as soon as possible: tinyurl.com/applytoducksrise.
A one-page application statement will need to be uploaded as part of the application. In your statement, please describe why you are a good fit for the program.
- What are your professional career goals and interests? We understand your ideas and plans may change, so this does not have to be firm, but we are interested in what you think you might like to do in the future.
- How do you think this program will help you achieve those goals/objectives?
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Students can expect to hear from us within 3 weeks of submitting their application.
The last day to apply for the F22 cohort will be Wednesday, September 28th.
