Artist Talk: Dan Powell

Photographer Dan Powell will present an illustrated talk about his career and recent book, Scene Shifting: Photographs from Left of Iowa. Featuring 101 black and white images mostly from large format negatives, the book highlights a particular period in Powell’s art practice during the 1980s and 90s, when he photographed in the high desert country of Oregon and Washington, as well as throughout the Southwest. Powell grew up in the Yakima Valley of south-central Washington and is professor emeritus of art and photography at the University of Oregon. His photographs have been exhibited widely in museums and galleries in the United States and internationally, including the Royal College of Art, London; the Condeso/Lawler Gallery, New York; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; and the Iseta Museum of Art, Tokyo, Japan. |
