The Institute of Reading Development Summer Teaching Positions Available

Now Accepting Applications for Summer 2025

The Institute of Reading Development is now hiring summer teachers to lead our summer reading enrichment programs, designed to foster a love of reading while building critical reading skills in students of all ages.

Our approach combines evidence-based practices with engaging activities that make reading fun and meaningful for students. This framework simplifies your role as a teacher, so you can focus on what matters most—helping students thrive.

This is a great opportunity to do challenging and meaningful work in a supportive environment. Teaching experience is valuable but not necessary, and we do not require teaching certification. We provide comprehensive lesson plans and training so that you will be fully prepared before your first class. You’ll receive ongoing support from a dedicated supervisor.

We welcome your application, whether you are an upcoming or recent college grad, a graduate student, a current teacher, or looking to make a career switch into education.

Our Teachers:

·         Work with students in both online and in-person classrooms.

·         Earn up to $700 per week.

·         Receive comprehensive paid training and ongoing support.

·         Gain up to 200 hours of experience teaching their own classes to students from 4-year-olds to adults.

Teaching Schedule Details and Commitment:

·         10 weeks of teaching.

·         Full-time and part-time positions available. All schedules include teaching on both weekend days.

·         Entry-level position, with opportunities for continued employment with the Institute after the summer.

Training:

·         We have two training programs:

·         A 3-week full-time program, Monday-Friday in the weeks immediately preceding teaching.

·         A part-time independent study program designed for current full-time teachers.

Successful Institute Teachers:

·         Have strong reading skills and read fiction for pleasure.

·         Are responsible and hard-working, with strong communication and organizational skills.

·         Are comfortable and confident with technology.

·         Have a bachelor’s degree or higher.

·         Are active, patient, and supportive with students and parents.

We look forward to reading your application soon.

Looking for mural artist

One of our residential treatment programs for youth here in Eugene is opening a 2nd location and we are currently in the process of making renovations to the building and our staff members were hoping we might be able to find some local artists to come and paint some fun, bright murals on our walls.  I think it’s a unique opportunity for some up and coming artists to make their mark here locally and also provide our most vulnerable youth suffering and recovering from trauma, suicidal ideation, self-harm, anxiety, abuse and more

Please call or email and let me know if this might be a possible collaboration.

Check out this page of our website to learn more about our Regional Crisis Center program (this page outlines our current location in west Eugene, the new 2nd location is located just across from Autzen stadium off of MLK blvd): https://www.lookingglass.us/regional-crisis-center

Pioneering summer creative residencies within an inspiring mediterranean natural scenery in rural Greece – July/August 2025

Residency Periplus Workshops 2025 introduction

The 2025 residencies’ program, Periplus* Workshops, offers the unique opportunity for emerging creatives to respond to nature in two small villages of rural Greece. In Arcadia,  the mythical land of pastoral utopia, in central Peloponnese or at the agricultural side of the historical Chania Region, in Crete. In a carefully structured period of intensive days, a determined group of participants use limited resources to create individual and collaborative responses, culminating in a local exhibition which is open to the wider local community and encourages an outward-facing conversation about the value of experimental creativity in context.

As well as learning from and working alongside local people, participants in Periplus Workshops foster sustainable development through skillsharing, introducing new approaches to problem solving and storytelling. At the same time, learning about the traditional forms of handicrafts and local material culture, they are looking for new ways of better preserving and innovatively including them. They take active part into giving the selected territories visibility as a living laboratory, open to new thinking capable of playing a key role in changing the social fabric and bring about new ways of doing and being.

Spaces are limited and following the amazing response created in the previous years, there are expectations for high quality responses.

Coming Summer, July – August 2025

You may find more information on : https://www.periplusworkshops.com/
