The annual Keena Shaw Northrop Dean’s Art Award
A reminder to all students working in the media of Fibers: The annual Keena Shaw Northrop Dean’s Art Award for fibers or textile-based artworks is open for submission until May 5th! This art prize was established in 2013 as a partnership between the College of Design and the Robert D. Clark Honors College. This award was made possible courtesy of a gift from UO alumnus Jim Northrop ‘81 in honor of his mother, Keena Shaw Northrop, a ’50 Fine & Applied Arts major. Jim attended the honors college and his mother, during her years on campus, spent time in Chapman Hall, home of the CHC, storing some of her projects in the drawers that used to be housed on the 3rd floor prior to the Chapman Hall renovation.
The successful awardee will have their selected artwork(s) displayed in Chapman Hall June 2023-May 2024, and will receive a $1000 prize. All current UO students, including those graduating this year, are welcome to submit up to three separate works or proposals for works-in-progress for consideration. This year’s deadline for submissions is Friday May 5th, 2023, for an installation date by the first week of June. Please see the flier for more information.
