Pioneering summer creative residencies within an inspiring mediterranean natural scenery in rural Greece – July/August 2025

Residency Periplus Workshops 2025 introduction

The 2025 residencies’ program, Periplus* Workshops, offers the unique opportunity for emerging creatives to respond to nature in two small villages of rural Greece. In Arcadia,  the mythical land of pastoral utopia, in central Peloponnese or at the agricultural side of the historical Chania Region, in Crete. In a carefully structured period of intensive days, a determined group of participants use limited resources to create individual and collaborative responses, culminating in a local exhibition which is open to the wider local community and encourages an outward-facing conversation about the value of experimental creativity in context.

As well as learning from and working alongside local people, participants in Periplus Workshops foster sustainable development through skillsharing, introducing new approaches to problem solving and storytelling. At the same time, learning about the traditional forms of handicrafts and local material culture, they are looking for new ways of better preserving and innovatively including them. They take active part into giving the selected territories visibility as a living laboratory, open to new thinking capable of playing a key role in changing the social fabric and bring about new ways of doing and being.

Spaces are limited and following the amazing response created in the previous years, there are expectations for high quality responses.

Coming Summer, July – August 2025

Woolly Made looking for Interns and graduated students

This is Jake with Woolly Made.  Our leather goods business has had interns with the PD program for the last few years and they’ve been great.   We would be happy to take on another if there are any students still in need for this school year. If you are interested, please contact me directly: jake@woollymade.com

Separately, we are also in need of some part time to full time (depending on availability) employees. The job would entail things like: laser cutting, sewing, finishing leather goods all while hanging in the relaxed shop environment with the two founders (2012 PD grads) and our small team of makers.

adidas is look for design students for our Summer 2025 Internships!

I’m excited to share that our Summer 2025 internship roles are now live, featuring two positions:

Product Design, US Sports

Color Materials + Graphic Design, Footwear

Note: We do require portfolios or work samples. While we don’t need a large quantity of projects, I believe quality is key here. The hiring managers will be eager to see your best work.

Both roles will primarily focus on Footwear design, but we encourage students with diverse interests or skillsets to apply. We prioritize passion and potential over experience.

Our application window opened on October 1st and will close on October 15th at 11:59 PM PST. I highly recommend that your students aim to apply at least three days in advance, if possible, as we often see a surge of applications just before the deadline.

In terms of internship start dates, they will either have a May or June start date and complete their 12-week internship in August or September. It will just depend on your academic calendar.

Mural project for alumnus

Hello,  I have moved to Eugene from Portland and I have an older metal shed that I would love to have painted as a mural.
I’d like to pay a student/s to paint it for me on two sides. I’d want to select a design and then pay $200 to the winning design and then pay for the paint.  I’d like it completed by end of autumn semester.
My phone number is 503/698/3000.

Sincerely
~~Jill class 1987

graphic arts designer wanted

Seeking graphic arts designer interested in rebranding a small but growing company (design & direction in marketing), perhaps as a project.  This would be a comprehensive re-branding.  The goal is to brand all the materials of the company to be synonymous in their ‘look’ including a book, education workbook, marketing and promotions (website, and SM direction a plus).  Limited budget but willing to discuss the cost of the process/plan as a complete project or in phases each with separate costs.  Please contact Cecilia at pilates4parkinsons@yahoo.com to discuss further details of the project.

Science Art

Plasmidsaurus is an overnight DNA sequencing service, serving researchers at the University of Oregon and across the world. When researchers send in their DNA samples, they’re enclosed in plastic tubes which have colorful tops: https://twitter.com/plasmidsaurus/status/1580600148979507200/
We came across an artist using bottle caps to create eco murals: https://theworld.org/stories/2023/07/10/venezuelan-artist-uses-recycled-bottle-caps-create-large-eco-murals. We’re based in Eugene and thought how local artists might enjoy giving our plastics a new, creative life.
Students and local artists are welcome to reach out to maria.k@plasmidsaurus.com with any ideas they’d like to explore.

Student Film Seeking Student Sculptors!

My name is Cait Smith and I’m a senior in the Cinema Studies department. I’m working on a short film for the Art of Producing class called Brother Chris. My crew is in need of a sculpting artist to help with the project!

We want to take a page from Wes Anderson’s book and create miniature-style props, like a dragon and tiny versions of two actors. These will be featured briefly in the film.

I am open to collaborate with an artist in whatever medium they feel most inspired by. My greatest hope is to allow them the creative freedom to create something they are proud of. Due to the student-made nature of the project, the role is not compensated, but we will cover the costs of materials. The film will likely screen at festivals, so it’s a good opportunity for the artist to get their work seen by more people!

We are scheduled to shoot the film during weeks 5-8, so there is unfortunately a quick turnaround time for creation.  I would be happy to provide more details about the production, you can email me at caits@uoregon.edu.

Silk Road Review opportunity

Who Are We?

Silk Road Review: A Literary Crossroads is an exchange of worlds. We publish original fiction, nonfiction, poetry, one-act plays, screenplays, graphic narratives, translations, first chapters, and artwork that take us to new places, whether physical or metaphorical.

Historically, the Silk Road was not a single road, but rather a network of pathways that spanned national borders.  We believe that the trading of stories and ideas across boundaries is essential to building a healthy global community.  If our journal can bring together diverse voices—whether those be nationally or emotionally or intellectually defined–then we will have lived up to our journal’s name, expanding our sense of the world through connection.

We are delighted to share that Silk Road Review is a paying literary magazine. While there is a $2 submission fee, this means our contributors will receive $10/page for prose (up to a maximum of $250 per published piece) and $30 for each poem and piece of artwork. Submit your work today and take us somewhere!

Exploring the Dolomites Study Abroad Program for Art Students

GEO Exploring the Dolomites Brochure

E-Card Exploring the Dolomites 2024-2

I’m writing from Global Education Oregon (GEO) to announce the continuation of the Exploring the Dolomites: Landscape, History, Ecology, and Literature in Northern Italy study abroad program for summer 2023, and we would appreciate your help in reaching students who might be interested in this study abroad opportunity. The program consists of an interdisciplinary course that studies the Dolomite regions combining Humanities and Earth Sciences. This short two-week journey can be an ideal vehicle for wildlife photography projects. Indeed, the Dolomites, have been recently designated as World Heritage Site by the UNESCO for the distinctive variety of their morphology, geology and landscape, and they are one of the most sought-after places by photographers from all over the world

This is a unique program that offers a wide range of credit options for students (Core Ed, GERSCAN, French and Italian, German and Scandinavian Studies, Environmental Studies and Environmental Science, Earth Sciences, History, International Studies, and Comparative Literature credits), and provides a unique blend of instruction mixed with conscious hiking through the beautiful Italian Alps.

Pro bono design proposal

Interested in a pro bono design project with a large scope involving a logo, website, FB and Insta? Working with other-abled and diverse people? And helping those people network through your design talents and skills?
The project is an upstart non-profit, Polio Survivors Network, for the estimated 500,000 polio survivors in the US. What was once a sweeping epidemic over nearly 20 years and primarily affected children has left us as medical dinosaurs. There are few practicing polio doctors left. Most doctors aren’t even trained about polio. We’ve been forgotten and ignored.
So we’re in need of a central networking site for all things polio from the medical to the emotional – a place to share our stories, find polio support groups, locate reliable medical resources and just find each other. As a retired art and marketing director, I understand the great importance of functional and beautiful design.
If this piques your interest and gets your design juices flowing, please contact me:

My family recently moved to Eugene and we’d love to hire a photographer to take family photos this fall. This would likely be for a few hours at most, and we could negotiate an hourly rate.

call to Oregon artists

Chamber Music Amici announces a call to Oregon artists for its annual art commission, to use the digital images of three original works created for this commission and two more works from the artist’s existing portfolio for use in promoting CMA’s next season. Artists retain all rights to their work, and all media types, from graphic design to water color to multimedia/collage, are welcomed.

CMA invites Oregon artists to submit an application by Friday, November 10, 2023, for the commission, with the three original artworks due March 31, 2024. The commission includes:

  • An award of $2,000 for three original pieces plus time-limited digital rights to two already created pieces from the artist’s portfolio. The digital images of all five pieces will appear on Amici’s posters, programs and other promotional materials during the 2024-2025 season. The artist retains all rights to their work; CMA uses only the digital images of the newly created and existing work.
  • A show at Emerald Art Center (one month) in Springfield and Cascade Manor (two months) in Eugene of the five pieces that make up the commission, and up to five additional pieces by the artist.
  • An Art Opening & Reception at the Emerald Art Center during the Springfield Second Friday Art Walk, Friday, April 12, 2024, to honor the artist and unveil their work, hosted by EAC and CMA, with all publicity and musical entertainment organized by CMA.

Complete details of the commission application and the proposal information are available to download on the CMA website, https://chambermusicamici.org/amici-art-contest/#art-commission.
