Peace Corps Campus Ambassadorship Applications now open!

2016-17 CampusAmbassadors_PromotionalFlyer-2bxypwi

The Peace Corps at the University of Oregon will be launching the 2nd year of our Campus Ambassador program for the 2017-2018 academic year.

Applications are currently open and we are hoping to build an energetic, dynamic and motivate team to work on a variety of projects and programs promoting Peace Corps on campus. The program offers a prestigious internship-like experience; however, as a campus ambassador students will be considered a local expert, not an intern.

Peace Corps is aware that students know this campus better than anyone, and can connect with groups of students who may not yet know the benefits of Peace Corps service. The opportunity is open to undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Oregon. Applications are now open and will close April 15th.

What campus ambassadors do

As a campus ambassador, students engage in many vibrant forms of student outreach: class talks, social media campaigns, photo competitions, campus festivals, and more. All campus ambassadors will work with the Peace Corps recruiter on campus. The specifics of role will depend upon the needs of this campus and the students unique skills. The Peace Corps will have many activities and ideas for the student to support, but will also look to their expertise for innovative ways to connect with diverse groups on campus. On average, campus ambassadors work less than five hours per week, and typically are in the position from late September through June. This internship is unpaid but can be done for credit depending on your departments rules and regulations.

Benefits

Through the close relationship with the campus Peace Corps recruiter, campus ambassadors receive professional mentorship and development, including a letter of recommendation at the end of the year (contingent upon performance). Campus ambassadors gain résumé-building experience with the Peace Corps, a  U.S. federal agency focused on building the capacity of countries abroad. See agency mission. Serving as a campus ambassador will not directly increase their chances of being selected for Peace Corps service—as it doesn’t build sector-specific work skills—but it can indirectly support their application. This year one of our campus ambassadors was selected to serve in Peru as a Health Outreach Volunteer leaving July 2017 and the others are currently working on their applications.

Apply

The online application to be a 2017–18 Campus Ambassador is open until April 15, 2017. Apply now!
