Eugene Bike Share – Unicorn Bikes

As you may have heard (article in the Emerald this morning), Bike Share is coming to Eugene. Although previously a Fall 2017 launch had been discussed, the system obtained a title sponsor which has pushed back the launch until Spring 2018. This delay has actually provided us with a unique opportunity. As part of title sponsorship, the sponsor gets to determine the color and look of all assets involved in bike share. One of the things that the sponsor has requested is 10 “unicorn” bikes to be part of the system. These are bicycles with unique designs that provide an extra bit of excitement to the system. (See the Sneaker Bikes they did for the Nike sponsored system in Portland). Although the operator, Social Bicycles, has an in-house design person for the system as a whole, the General Manager of the Eugene system is a UO grad and would like to engage UO students in the design of these “unicorn” bikes.
