UO Emerging Leadership Project

The Holden Center for Leadership and Community Engagement is launching a new program – the Emerging Leadership Project. The ELP is a year-long cohort-based leadership and service program, in which students will develop their leadership skills and put their knowledge and skills into practice by implementing their own service project. This program was designed to introduce students to leadership and service, and is open to ALL students regardless of previous experience.

What Will You Do in the Program?

The ELP cohort will meet for 2-hours throughout the duration of the program, which will span across three quarters. Each term will highlight different themes and skills:

–          Winter 2022 – Personal Development: Essential leadership skills, understanding our strengths, navigating imposter feelings, inclusive practices, balancing responsibilities

–          Spring 2022 – Group Development: Project management, conflict resolution, community building, anti-racist practices, forming project teams and identifying service projects

–           Fall 2022 – Community Engagement: Implementing service projects, collaboration skills, career readiness, civic engagement

What Will You Get Out of the ELP?

–          Leadership Skills – A wide range of leadership skills will be developed through engaging workshops and experiential application

–          Direct Service Experience – Students will design and implement their own service project related to a social interest they are passionate about

–          Career Readiness – Students will develop critical skills sought after by employers, and we will help you craft impactful job application materials

–          Community Connections Students will have the opportunity to form genuine and long-lasting relationships with their fellow ELP cohort members and the broader community

–          Mentorship – Students will be provided 1:1 mentorship throughout the program to aid with their development, service projects, and other personal goals

Opportunities for Funding Your Service Projects

–          Service Grants Students can receive up to $1,000 to fund project that work with a community partner.

–          Environmental Justice Fellowship – If students want to complete a project related to environmental justice, they can apply for the Fellowship to receive $2,500.
