Aerial Photography Research Service in UO Library is hiring student employees.

We’re hiring a LSA 1 position. It’s listed in Handshake (Job #6346283: Aerial Photography Research Service LSA1) and the deadline to apply is April 29th.  It’s 10 – 15 hours a week when classes are in session and potentially more during breaks and summer.  Student must be available to work this summer (but don’t have to be enrolled in classes for summer) and next academic year.  You don’t need to qualify for work study to get hired.

General Description of Duties:

Located within Knight Library, the Aerial Photography Research Service (APRS) provides patrons, both academic and members of the general public, with access to the approximately 1,000,000 aerial photograph prints in the Library’s Collection.

Tasks:

  • Use paper and digital indexes to research and locate aerial photography of a specific site.
  • Scan aerial photographs and use Photoshop to crop and merge images for delivery to patrons.
  • Pull and crop digital imagery.
  • Clean, repair, or encapsulate aerial photographs and indexes as needed.
  • Re-file aerial photography.
  • Use GIS software (ArcMap) to update and create indexes.
  • Perform special filing and inventory projects under the supervision of the APRS manager.

Special Requirements (knowledge, skills, experience, etc):

  • Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience interpreting and reading visual media and maps, including large-scale print formats.
  • Experience working with computers, especially word-processing, spreadsheets, and file management software.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Productive in an independent work atmosphere.

Comments:

·        Position involves lifting up to 25 pounds, including above head level

·        Hours per week: 10-15 (additional hours may be available during summer months and winter break).

·        Ability to work through summer is a must.

·        Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.

·        Minimum wage to start, with opportunities to advance as student becomes familiar with collection and develops core competencies.
