The College of Design is hiring several hourly workers to support student affinity groups focused on BIPOC and LGBTQ students as part of our Justice, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (JEDI) efforts. The position is open to undergraduate and graduate majors in the College of Design.

 

Background: For the past several years, the School of PPPM has been running Affinity Groups to provide a forum for support, advice, and sharing. Groups have also taken on a project, but it is not required. At the end of the 2021-22 year, the groups supported the idea of expanding to being College-wide. Dean Parr has agreed to fund student workers to support BIPOC and LGBTQ groups for the remainder of the 2022-23 Academic Year.

 

Role: The role of the student worker is to publicize, lead, and facilitate regular meetings of these groups. We anticipate hiring one person for each group. Tasks may include:

o  Publicizing the group to students and departments in the College

o  Responding to emails or messages about the group

o  Scheduling meetings every week or every other week

o  Organizing a venue or online forum for meetings

o  Organizing potential guest speakers or professionals to meet with the group

o  There is room to try innovative approaches to engagement

 

Position Requirements

  • Must be a current DSGN student (undergraduate major or graduate student)
  • Good communicator (verbal and written)
  • Well organized
  • Commitment to Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
  • Ability to work with diverse constituencies and perspectives

 

Desired

  • Experience facilitating and/or supporting affinity groups
  • Prior work or experience with JEDI issues

 

Pay and Hours

  • $15-$16per hour depending on experience
  • 2-5 hoursper week depending on tasks and events
  • The position runs through the end of the School Year (Now until mid-June 2023)
